Project 1 - Infographics Poster
Week 4
(28/01/20)

From this week onwards, we would be starting on with our projects. Project 1 is to create an A3 infographic of a recipe of our choice. Ms. Anis stated clearly that the poster should be detailed enough for the audience to actually be able to follow the recipe.

As always, I started off with some research. I tried thinking of my favourite dishes, but I thought they were all too difficult or too detailed if I made into a poster. After a lot of thought and consideration, I chose a fairly simple yet iconic dish- Nasi Lemak!

Now that I was happy with my layout and composition, I started drawing it in Illustrator. I really took my time with details, even knowing that each illustration would be too miniscule to even see the details.

This illustration of the Nasi Lemak is by far my favourite! I was very happy with all of the individual illustrations so far, but then everything went a bit downhill when I put them together.

I kept playing around with the background colour and border/ pillars colour combinations because nothing seemed to be working for me. I asked my friends for some advice and they told me to stick with a blue background for the sky as I was sort of going for a "cloud" look (there are clouds holding the conveyor belt; the title shadow is white).

I was still unsatisfied with this colour combination, so I played around some more and finally settled for this deep brown background.

I really like how the final outcome looks now with the darker background! Now for project 2, the animation part.

Firstly, I made a storyboard:

This is my first time touching After Effects in a long time, not to mention I never really had much use out of it other than the puppet tool. Therefore, everything was very difficult at the start. I had to watch a handful of YouTube tutorials multiple times to try to replicate the animations.

Over time and more practice, I got the hang of it and I started to open up to AE more. It became easier and I worked faster, plus I got to learn a lot in a short amount of time just for this submission.

I struggled a lot at the beginning because I never had much practice with AE, but I am very happy with my end result.

Here is my final video:
