PROJECT

Brand Guide Book

30/10/20 - 27/11/20 (Week 10- Week 14)

This Brand Corporate Identity final project is combined with our Publishing Design module final project. This project required us to make a brand guide book for our chosen brand, which would be in the form of an interactive PDF/ebook.

Here is my progress:

I tried playing around with the buttons and rollovers. Here is my progress:

FEEDBACK

Week 10:

General feedback: We should have more fun with our stationaries and collateral, instead of repeatedly using our patterns everywhere. For the environment graphics, the set up should look appropriate to our brand and the size of our company.

Specific feedback: I can use my illustrations from publishing design for my collateral and stationaries instead of using patterns. It also goes with my occupation which is a graphic novelist. My collateral should be more focused on my brand and not just any random collaterals. For the environment graphics, the set up should look appropriate to the brand. A small studio or space is more suitable to my brand compared to a large office space.

Week 11:

General feedback: The first page or cover should look more presentable and represents the brand. We should explain the information very clearly as if the person reading doesn't know anything about the topic.

Specific feedback: Using forward/backward arrow buttons instead of 'next/previous' is fine, but I could think about possibly using an element of my logo as the button. Mr. Vinod said its not necessary but its just something to think about. My layout is fine and has a lot of empty 'breathing' space, the only thing now is to put all my content in.

Week 12:

General feedback: The collaterals/stationary mockups shouldn't need to have a busy background or else it will distract it from the actual subject.

Specific feedback: The page that starts before each section could have the details of my logo, instead of just putting the logo there. I can use a different part of the logo for each section to make it more interesting. Once again, try to have more fun with the brand profile to make it look like its worth reading and not boring.

Week 13:

General feedback: Place your AI file in InDesign so your images wont be pixelated. If you want to export a jpeg that has text in it, it has to be 300dpi for it to be clear. Gifs wont work in an interactive pdf so it has to be saved as a .mov. There should be an ending page or else the reader might not know if the brand guide has already ended or not.

Specific feedback: For the minimum logo size, put 'dont use' below the 10mm logo or whichever size logo that shouldn't be used. The FB profile picture might just need the logomark and not with 'Tell A Tale' because the name is already written next/below the picture. Use 'go to destination' instead of 'go to page' because it wont work as an interactive pdf.

REFLECTION

Experience: Week 10 (30/10/20); It's a bit tricky to find the balance between making a creative and fun stationary and still keeping it professional-looking. Week 11 (08/10/20); I imagined making the brand guide to be difficult but it wasn't really too bad because we already have most of the content down. Week 12 (13/11/20); Like the stationaries, the brand guide also has to look nice while being professional so the balance needs to be implemented. Week 13 (20/11/20); We are almost reaching the end of the semester so class was just for checking the portfolio and for extra feedback.

Observation: Week 10 (30/10/20); I think I didn't give much room for experimentation in my stationaries because I just followed along with the demonstration video. Week 11 (08/10/20); The brand guide is basically just the logo 9 items but in a more proper and professional format compilation. Week 12 (13/11/20); Once again, I was not being as experimental in my work as I'd like mainly due to time constraints and feeling like I had to make the brand guide look professional. Week 13 (20/11/20); I found that my rollovers were a bit too dark which made it look like there wasn't even a rollover.

Findings: Week 10 (30/10/20); I found that the layout and placement for stationaries is different from making a book layout because their purposes are different. Week 11 (08/10/20); Putting in the images and logos was a breeze, but writing info about it was a bit difficult if the brand guide I'm referencing doesn't have exactly the same topics. Week 12 (13/11/20); I found it quite hard to make my brand guide look playful and interesting. Week 13 (20/11/20); I found that making the pop-up buttons weren't that difficult, but I had to be very focused and do everything in one go.
