PROJECT
Final Project - Interactive AR Application with Promotional Page
Week 10 (31/06/21) - Week 14 (14/28/21)
Our final project requires us to create an awareness/marketing campaign for a brand/company of our choice. We are also encouraged to choose Taylor's University as the client. Some examples include:
- Fun AR activities to try out on Taylor's University campus.
- Virtual Final Year Exhibitions for design students.
- AR map for university visitors and new students.
The final project consists of two main areas:
- An interactive prototype AR application for the campaign
- An interactive microsite for the campaign which also serves as
- an instruction to download and a user guide for the AR app.
- Project ideas must be approved by the lecturer/tutor to ensure that they
- are feasible in an introductory level class.
The requirements for this project is to develop:
Interactive AR application using Spark AR Studio
The AR application should follow design principles and user guidelines released by Spark AR (Facebook Inc). Students are encouraged to use original content and graphic design. Students are allowed to download and use free 3D models which are released under Creative Common and Public Domain Licenses.
Interactive microsite using Adobe Animate
The website should follow design principles learned from Interactive Design class. The content must use original text and original graphic design. The website should not have broken links and properly use of HTML Tags.

If I chose to go with Taylor's, I couldn't really think of a new idea considering my seniors have already covered most of it. I then decided to combine my other module, Creative Brand Strategy, with this one. My Creative Brand Strategy module requires us to create a campaign, and my campaign is called ‘Play Lah!’, which is an event aiming to preserve the traditional Malaysian games and culture. I think it would be very appropriate to incorporate both modules together that will fulfill both project requirements, as well as create a fun and engaging filter.
My objective for making this filter is because most of the local youth do not know how to play traditional games, therefore this filter can easily teach them how - in a new and interactive way. This would be a faster, efficient, fun, and interactive method of visual aid, where people will be more encouraged to learn about traditional games.
I started by sketching out how I want the filter to look like, and planned out each step of the filter.

Filter steps:
- The phone will scan the QR code that's on the poster
- Only the traditional games will pop up. The top says ‘Jom Play Lah!’ and ‘do you know these traditional Malaysian games? Click on each game to learn more!’
- Upon clicking on the game, the name appears next to it (Congkak, gasing, etc.), with a brief description and how-to-play tutorial for it.

After planning out each step of my filter, I gathered all the pictures I needed, including the top text, games PNGs, and the text descriptions.

REFLECTION
Out of all our modules this sem, I think this module had the most room for creativity as we got to choose our own topics for the projects. I really enjoyed making the filters as it is something new to me and I hope to be able to make more complex filters in the future! Adobe Animate was also a new software to me, but by the end of the sem I felt very comfortable using it even for my other modules. Overall, I enjoyed this class because the work was fun and didn't necessarily feel like we were doing projects.
